DEEPAK LALA
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Deepak first began with BVO in 1997 as a member of Dan Virtue’s (now Alex Houghton’s) team providing general accounting, audit and taxation services to clients involved in a wide array of industries ranging from investment, wholesale, distribution, retail, horticulture and commercial property. He has witnessed a number of clients grow exponentially from where they began.

Outside of work, he is a very keen hockey player, maintaining his fitness by playing weekly in a competitive grade

RUPINDER DHALIWAL
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Rupinder completed her Post Graduate and Doctorate degrees from Panjab University Chandigarh before moving to New Zealand. She completed refresher studies at University of Auckland to upskill to NZ law and practices.

Rupinder started her career in Auditing but gradually shifted to Business Advisory with a focus on accounting and tax compliance.

She has been working in Chartered Accountancy firms since 2006 and has a wealth of experience.

Rupinder’s passion away from work is gardening. She also enjoys reading, travelling and spending time with family.

ROBERT STODDARD
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Robert has a total of 25 years experience in chartered accountancy. He has also had commercial experience being the financial controller and CFO for nine years with Treescape Limited, a major arboricultural company. Robert assists clients with their accounting, audit and tax compliance.

Robert’s interests are shooting, walking, watching his sons play sport and enjoying the odd glass of wine.

RICHARD WALSH
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Richard started at BVO in March 2009. He has had over fifteen years experience in the CA field in a wide range of areas (farm accounting, liquidations, auditing), but has mostly focused on tax compliance.

In his spare time he enjoys reading, music and swimming.

KAREN EVANS
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Karen started her career in one of the big 5 accounting practices before heading to London for her big OE, working there for 6 years for two large charities.

Karen returned to NZ and worked in various finance roles in a variety of industries before returning to Chartered Accounting in 2006.

Karen’s interests outside of work include running, swimming and triathlons along with travelling, going to the movies and dining out with friends.

DANIEL KARLSSON
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Daniel began his career in 2009 as an auditor at a big four firm before moving to a business advisory practice for ten years where he found his passion. Daniel joined BVO in 2021 as a Senior Accountant. In his spare time, Daniel enjoys online gaming, traveling abroad and dining out with friends and family.

ISABEL GINELLA
ACCOUNTANT

Having recently completed a Bachelor of Accounting Degree at Massey University, Isabel joined BVO as a graduate accountant. Prior to joining BVO Isabel gained invaluable experience managing the back office in her family’s hospitality business using Xero to manage the finance function. Isabel’s hands on attitude meant that she also assisted in the operations of the business including hiring and training staff and organising rosters. This experience has enabled Isabel to match the theory of accounting with the practical realities of running a business which she will be able to use to assist the clients of BVO with their businesses.

Isabel has started her journey on becoming a Chartered Accountant which will complement the knowledge she has already gained from her academic study.

In her free time Isabel enjoys spending time with family, playing tennis and travelling.

HARRY MA
ACCOUNTANT

Harry has been working at CA firms since graduating from Massey University with a master’s degree in professional accountancy and finance in 2019.

Prior to that, he worked for a large national company in China as an accountant and gained valuable commercial experience. Throughout his career in public practice, he has been responsible for handling accounting and taxation matters for clients from different industries. Harry is always willing to assist clients with questions they may encounter in their business and consistently maintains a high level of client satisfaction. In his free time, Harry enjoys playing basketball, working out, playing the piano and spending time with his family.

GREG VIRTUE
PRACTICE ACCOUNTANT

Greg rejoined BVO in May 2012, is our Practice Accountant , after originally working at BVO as a member of his father Dan Virtue’s (now Alex Houghton’s) team for 10 years from 1997 through to the end of 2007. His time at BVO in those years was spent mainly in compliance-based work with a wide variety of clients as well as performing some auditing work. He has also had various finance roles in his 2 working stints overseas in the UK.

Greg’s passions outside work include tramping, climbing, multi-sporting and off-road running and he is a keen follower of most sports. He has completed 5 overseas climbing expeditions since 2007 and looks forward to hopefully a few more in the next few years.

SVETLANA PETRUKHINA
AUDIT MANAGER

After obtaining a graduate diploma with Honors in Accounting as well as a Master of Economics from tertiary institution in Russia, Svetlana (Lana), achieved a post-graduate diploma in Business Administration from the Auckland Institute of Studies.

Lana brings an extensive level of experience on internal and external audits as well as international financial reporting. This experience was achieved from providing external audit and assurance services for numerous clients in her native, Russia, before providing internal audit services to clients in her role  as Deputy Head of Internal Audit Control and Methodology Group for a firm of accountants in Moscow. Lana’s New Zealand experiences is wide ranging in external audit, ranging from extensive experience on “not-for-profit” entities, AML/CFT audit services as well as performing trust account audits on real estate agencies and education institutions. More recently, Lana has worked as an Audit Manager at a second tier Accounting firm, on a wide variety of not-for-profit entities, school audits as well as audits of other commercial and corporate clients.

Lana speaks English and Russian and studied Spanish in addition to accounting. Outside of work, Lana is interested in dance, travel, psychology and spending quality time with her family and friends.

ANUKSHA TALPADE
AUDITOR

Anuksha graduated from Auckland University of Technology in 2021 with a Major in Accounting and Minor in Business Law. Anuksha has some international secondary education having spent 5½ years studying in Mumbai before completing her secondary education at Auckland’s Mt Roskill Grammar School. Prior to joining BVO, Anuksha worked in an accounting role in the property industry and is currently on the journey towards completing her membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA). Anuksha speaks three languages, English, Marathi & Hindi, and when not working on the clients of BVO enjoys singing classic Bollywood songs, watching movies and spending quality time with her family.

STEPHEN RUTHERFORD
TAX LEAD

Steve joined the BVO team in July 2018. He is a Chartered Accountant with 30 plus years
experience in both the public and private sector.

Prior to moving to BVO he was employed by the Chartered Accountants of Australia and
New Zealand in the New Zealand Tax Policy team. Steve has also worked previously with
a major second tier firm and Inland Revenue Department. Steve has been involved
with all the major tax developments over the last ten years and now brings his unique
expertise and skills to BVO.

Steve is able to assist you to comply with your New Zealand tax obligations and dealing with
Inland Revenue queries and audits.

Outside of work Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and following various sporting
codes from the sideline.

LISA DAVIS
SENIOR BUSINESS CONSULTANT

Lisa has recently joined BVO as a Senior Business Consultant. She has spent the last six years working in chartered accountancy firms in Business advisory, with a focus on accounting and taxation consulting for a broad range of clients. Lisa has extensive experience with Xero and other cloud software applications that assist clients to make their accounting processes efficient as well as with creation of forecasts and budgets. 
 
Lisa has a passion for assisting clients on advisory projects such as business acquisitions, tax structures but also enjoys assisting clients with their tax compliance. Lisa will be acting as role model and trainer to assist in mentoring the more junior members of the team.

Outside of work her interests include spending time with family, baking, reading and playing board games with friends.

RAHUL SINGH
MANAGER

For the last six years Rahul has been working in chartered accountancy firms which have provided him a range of skills in general compliance and taxation within a wide range of industries. In between he has also had experience in the commercial environment working as a financial accountant for a large corporate.

Outside of work his interests include spending time with his family and supporting his favourite team – the Warriors.

LYNETTE BYWATER
IT OPERATOR

Lynette has been with BVO since 2002, as the head of our computer processing company. Lynette is the firm’s expert on Cash Manager, MYOB, Bank Link and Xero.

Outside of work, Lynette’s interests revolve around her two teenage children and their many activities, and also walking her dog on West Auckland beaches.

DAVID G KNIGHTLEY
CONSULTANT – SENIOR AUDITOR

David has re-joined the firm after initially leaving to set up as a chartered Accountant in Public Practice.

David is a Chartered Accountant and a Retired Qualified Auditor and has been a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand Society for over 40 years. He specialises in audit and assurance engagements of Not-For-Profit Clubs, Societies, Charities, Trusts and other Corporate entities.

David is a Trustee of the National Charity, Catalytic Foundation (formerly United Way NZ). This charity has over 40 years’ experience in connecting individuals, businesses, and philanthropists with communities in need. The primary purpose being to act as a catalyst between givers and receivers, be it money, time, or resources. David is also a life member of PROBUS, Newmarket, a mutual association of retired professional and business people.

Aside from photography, David’s other interests include stamp collecting (NZ), travelling (overseas to visit family), an owner of classic cars and travelling around the country enjoying activities that take place in the various towns or cities of New Zealand.
David and his wife Hazel, have two sons, one lives in Edinburgh, Scotland with his wife and a daughter and son,  and their other son lives in Auckland with his wife and daughter.

LINDA MATHESON
OPERATIONS MANAGER

Linda is our Operations Manager and is ensuring we continue to successfully expand the firm whilst freeing up Partners to concentrate on clients.
Linda has an extensive corporate background and has dealt with all the practical things in business including HR, Finance, Governance, Sales, Management, Operations, IT as well as experience as a Senior Accountant with us.
Outside of work she is a keen traveller, skier, enjoys biking and walking and taking in our glorious country. Linda also volunteers at a Charitable Trust which raises funds to send deserving students on Youth Leadership courses at Tongariro National Park who couldn’t afford to go otherwise.

LISA CORDTZ
SECRETARY/PA

Lisa joined BVO in June 1999, originally as a secretary for one of the firm’s former partners, and now as part of Mike and Julia’s team.

In her spare time Lisa enjoys going to the gym and keeping fit, and also baking, reading, gardening and taking her dog for long walks.

ANJALINA COOMARASAMY
ACCOUNTANT

Anjalina has not come to BVO along the traditional path of an accountant as she obtained a Bachelor of Engineering from Auckland University before spending time working in a civil engineering environment. Having discovered an interest in accounting and tax, Anjalina pursued a graduate Diploma in Business Majoring in Accounting from AUT with a view to working towards obtaining her Chartered Accountancy (CA) qualification.

Having spent over 5 years in diversified roles both in financial and customer relations for a public sector organization, Anjalina sought to expand her experience and gain a greater in-depth knowledge of accounting and taxation and therefore joined BVO.

Not only does Anjalina bring her diversified financial administration experience but she also brings a mature, problem-solving mindset gained from her engineering background which will aid BVO and its clients.

Outside of work, Anjalina enjoys baking, reading books and spending time with family and friends.

LATA NAYAK
PERSONAL ASSISTANT / ADMINISTRATOR

Lata is a professional with a career spanning over three decades, commencing in 1991.Lata first came to NZ in 2002 working with Climatech NZ for 3 years before returning to India. Her wealth of experience as an Executive Assistant included tenures at organisations such as American Express Bank, McKinsey and AT Kearney for an impressive 16 years, seamlessly transitioning to an online role from New Zealand since April 2023. Lata joined BVO recently as a Personal Assistant/Administrator supporting Alex and the team.

Lata loved learning English and holds a Graduate Degree in English Literature and a non-Practicing Law certificate.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lata finds joy in familial bonds, cherishing moments spent with her loved ones. A soulful enthusiast, she engages in singing Gurbani, reflecting a deep connection with spiritual expression. Lata’s adventurous spirit extends to her passion for travel, capturing the essence of diverse cultures and landscapes. With a wealth of experience and a multifaceted personality, Lata brings a unique blend of professionalism and personal charm to every endeavor.

SOPHIA REAY
ADMINISTRATOR

Sophia joined BVO in early 2021 while studying for a Bachelor of Arts to help with the digitisation of paper files. While Sophia has had a keen focus on the organisation of files and helping BVO to become paperless, she has successfully covered a number of roles such as Reception and as Personal Assistant for a Partner.

Outside of work, Sophia enjoys playing several woodwind instruments in a community band and teaching youth first aid and life skills.

YASMIN WALKER
ADMINISTRATOR

After graduating from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in International Business and Information Systems, Yasmin started working at BVO in early 2022 as an AML administrator and has now become a vital part of our administrative team.

Outside of BVO, Yasmin also teaches competitive figure skating. In her free time, she enjoys reading, dancing, aerial acrobatics, and traveling.

RILEY THOMAS
ADMINISTRATOR/RECEPTIONIST

Riley completed her Bachelor of Communications at Waikato Institute of Technology in Hamilton in 2021, originally from Hamilton, Riley moved to Auckland in 2022 and a new addition to the BVO team in her role of Administrator/Receptionist.

In her spare time Riley enjoys baking, cooking, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
