ROBERT STODDARDSENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Robert has a total of 25 years experience in chartered accountancy. He has also had commercial experience being the financial controller and CFO for nine years with Treescape Limited, a major arboricultural company. Robert assists clients with their accounting, audit and tax compliance.
Robert’s interests are shooting, walking, watching his sons play sport and enjoying the odd glass of wine.
RICHARD WALSHSENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Richard started at BVO in March 2009. He has had over fifteen years experience in the CA field in a wide range of areas (farm accounting, liquidations, auditing), but has mostly focused on tax compliance.
In his spare time he enjoys reading, music and swimming.
HELENA BATESSENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Helena joined BVO in September 2009 when she moved to Auckland from Thames where she had been working in an accounting firm for six and a half years.
When Helena is not at work she can be found socialising, shopping, cooking, travelling and following her other interest of make up artistry and beauty therapy.
Steven joined BVO in July 2015 after working in a medium sized accountancy practice in the City for seven years. Prior to that he worked in one of the larger New Zealand corporates for six years.
Steven has a wide range of experience in general compliance and taxation. His experience includes working with family owned-and-operated groups, budgets and management accounts. Steven has a particular interest in working closely with his clients to develop their businesses and achieve their goals.
Outside of work, Steven can be found spending time with family, playing badminton and at the gym.
HRISOULA LILLEYSENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Hrisoula started her career in Tax and Private at a ‘big 4′ firm where she provided business advisory, accounting and tax services as well as support for accounting information systems. She moved into the legal industry being a senior tax solicitor for a law firm in the city, before returning back to accounting. Hrisoula has a particular interest in helping SME business’ work efficiently and helping them to embrace new technology.
Outside of work, Hrisoula enjoys spending time with her family, shopping and pursuing her makeup artistry and hairstyling passion.
PAUL BESTSENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Paul has been at BVO since 1995, joining initially as a contract accountant.
As a full time employee his work has included Financial and Management Accounting, Tax Compliance, Commercial Property Management and Audit.
Paul’s interests focus around his family and he enjoys gardening, reading, walking and jogging for fitness and retains a keen interest, although not active, in most sports.
DEEPAK LALASENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Deepak first began with BVO in 1997 as a member of Dan Virtue’s (now Alex Houghton’s) team providing general accounting, audit and taxation services to clients involved in a wide array of industries ranging from investment, wholesale, distribution, retail, horticulture and commercial property. He has witnessed a number of clients grow exponentially from where they began.
Outside of work, he is a very keen hockey player, maintaining his fitness by playing weekly in a competitive grade
FLORA GOHSENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Flora graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree and worked with KPMG and in the banking industry in Singapore before coming to New Zealand.
Flora has been with BVO since 1995 and she contracts to BVO on a part-time basis. She enjoys chartered accountancy work, in particular dealing with clients and ensuring that their tax affairs are in order.
Flora’s personal interests include traveling, reading and being involved in her children’s sporting activities.
LYNETTE BYWATERIT OPERATOR
Lynette has been with BVO since 2002, as the head of our computer processing company. Lynette is the firm’s expert on Cash Manager, MYOB, Bank Link and Xero.
Outside of work, Lynette’s interests revolve around her two teenage children and their many activities, and also walking her dog on West Auckland beaches.
HILARY BISHOPSENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Hilary started her working career with a ‘big 4’ accountancy practice, where she gained experience in insolvency, audit and business services. She then moved into the corporate world and held senior accounting positions in a variety of industries before returning to chartered accounting in 1999.
Hilary has worked in chartered accounting on a part-time basis while raising family and has specialised knowledge in Xero conversions and training.
Hilary’s interests outside of work include keeping fit through ocean swimming, walking, cycling and yoga. She also enjoys reading, travel and spending time at the family bach at Matapouri.
GREG VIRTUEPRACTICE MANAGER
Greg rejoined BVO in May 2012, as Practice Manager, after originally working at BVO as a member of his father Dan Virtue’s (now Alex Houghton’s) team for 10 years from 1997 through to the end of 2007. His time at BVO in those years was spent mainly in compliance-based work with a wide variety of clients as well as performing some auditing work. He has also had various finance roles in his 2 working stints overseas in the UK.
Greg’s passions outside work include tramping, climbing, multi-sporting and off-road running and he is a keen follower of most sports. He has completed 5 overseas climbing expeditions since 2007 and looks forward to hopefully a few more in the next few years.
STEPHEN RUTHERFORDTAX LEAD
Steve joined the BVO team in July 2018. He is a Chartered Accountant with 30 plus years
experience in both the public and private sector.
Prior to moving to BVO he was employed by the Chartered Accountants of Australia and
New Zealand in the New Zealand Tax Policy team. Steve has also worked previously with
a major second tier firm and Inland Revenue Department. Steve has been involved
with all the major tax developments over the last ten years and now brings his unique
expertise and skills to BVO.
Steve is able to assist you to comply with your New Zealand tax obligations and dealing with
Inland Revenue queries and audits.
Outside of work Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and following various sporting
codes from the sideline.
Lisa joined BVO in June 1999, originally as a secretary for one of the firm’s former partners, and now as part of Athol Owens team.
In her spare time Lisa enjoys going to the gym and keeping fit, and also baking, reading, gardening and taking her dog for long walks.
TANYA MCGURKOFFICE ADMINISTRATOR
Office concierge, hospitality specialist, no job is too big or small! Tanya ensures staff and clients are well looked after, arranging office supplies and often catering for functions/events.
Tanya enjoys cooking, has an interest in dancing and a flair for fashion.
Julie has been with BVO since 2007, and her previous secretarial experience has been with government and corporate entities. She has a love of cooking, reading and catching up with friends.
You will come to know Sonia well, as our Receptionist. She enjoys working with our close knit team and our clients. She brings years of office and administration experience to the firm.
In her spare time she keeps fit at the gym, loves reading a good thriller, family time, wining and dining with friends.
TANIA BOWDENMANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT, PROCESS AND IMPROVEMENT CCONSULTANT
Tania has been an accountant for 20 years and has worked at BVO for the last 17 years, taking time out to raise her two children.
Tania is passionate about providing accounting process improvements and in-house management accounting services to our clients because she sees the value created means better more timely information for client decision making and more efficient use of accounting resources. BVO’s clients rave about Tania’s no fuss attitude and the benefits she brings to their business. Tania works collaboratively with the client, BVO Partner and BVO senior accountants to provide accounting solutions clients really value.
When Tania is not advising clients she is busy raising her young family.
