Mark Ross
Mark joined BVO in March 2011 and brings to the firm a wealth of knowledge and experience in taxation. While Mark's main focus will be assisting staff and clients in providing specialist taxation advice, he also has valuable experience in liquidations, business valuations and business services.
Mark graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with an Honors degree in Accounting and a Bachelor in Accounting and Commercial Law and began his professional accounting career with a small firm in Wellington as a graduate accountant in Business Services.
Mark enjoyed rapid success with this firm and with an interest in providing taxation solutions for clients joined the tax team in his second year. Mark spent four years refining his taxation knowledge while maintaining relationships with his Business Services clients. The combination of specialty interest and experience dealing with a wide range of clients enables Mark to offer practical specialist tax advice to small and medium businesses.
In 2010 Mark moved to Auckland to accept a senior tax position with a large firm in the CBD where he continued to provide practical taxation advice to the SME market while also assisting high wealth individuals and foreign and locally owned multinationals. Mark spent the majority of his time providing specialist consulting advice on a variety of national and international taxation matters.
Mark's key areas of expertise are:
- Family-owned businesses;
- Corporates with both NZ and overseas shareholders;
- Inbound investment and structuring of new businesses in NZ;
- Outbound investment and structuring of offshore businesses and investments;
- Assisting with income tax disputes and audits;
- Land and associated person transactions;
- Limited Partnerships; and
- Indirect taxes (GST, FBT)
Mark also presents on topical tax updates to both staff and clients.
When Mark is not at work, you will find him out training on his bike or running in the Waitakere ranges. In the past Mark has completed three half marathons, the Round Taupo Cycle Challenge and most recently the Rotorua Marathon.
