Marianne Ibbertson

Certificate of Public Practice, Chartered Accountant, Bachelor of Commerce

Marianne joined BVO in September 2009 and brings to the firm considerable experience in taxation gained from senior positions held with Inland Revenue & the 'Big 4' CA firms. Like many tax specialists, Marianne started her career with Inland Revenue building a wealth of knowledge across all tax regimes. The final five years was spent with Large Corporates as a technical advisor and investigator within the Manufacturing and Forestry portfolios.

Marianne had her first taste of the professional accounting world by joining Ernst Young and enjoyed early success with promotions to Senior Manager. Marianne credits her time with this firm to rounding out her taxation and accounting knowledge and developing specialist knowledge within the SME market and international tax issues, working closely with many local and multi national companies.

A brief stint in the Hawkes Bay with Staples Rodway was followed by a move to Deloitte in Auckland where Marianne was an Associate Director in Tax working predominantly with large multi nationals.

Marianne describes herself as a tax generalist - a person who is becoming increasingly hard to find given the complexities of the various tax regimes. Her passion is to work with clients to achieve the best outcome commercially, maximising all opportunities available whilst minimising any risks.

Marianne is passionate about sharing her knowledge and welcomes the opportunity to facilitate in-house training and seminars for staff and clients alike. She is an active committee member of NZICA's Special Interest Tax Group and facilitates presentations for this and other special interest groups in Auckland.

In her spare time, Marianne enjoys the many pleasures of living on Waiheke Island such as the beaches and vineyards. Marianne is also an avid cyclist having participated in many endurance and multi-day cycling events such as K2, Lake Taupo and East Cape tour.
